Uploading KMLs into QGC

This page provides information on Uploading KML files in QGC to run a preplanned mission. For this example, the Google Earth Pro application was installed and running on a Windows 64-bit laptop.

STEPACTIONADDITIONAL INFO

1

Open Google Earth PRO on your PC.

2

Click 'Add Polygon' (top row of tools/icons) in the pop-up window, name it, add a description if you like & before closing the new polygon window, draw your shape and change any colors and opacity (style/color tab) as desired.

NOTE: You can edit the polygon shape if you've closed that window by right clicking the name of the polygon on the lefthand sideBar in Google Earth PRO (Places). Go to 'Properties' and make adjustments as needed.

Click on the images to enlarge them.

3

Right-click on the new, named polygon in the left sideBar (Places) and select 'Save Place As...'

'Save as Type', change it to .KML file format. Then save it somewhere on the PC.

4

Connect the HereLink to the PC using a USB-A to micro USB cable. 'Optimus' will mount as an external device.

Swipe down from the top of the HereLink screen to bring up 'Android System', select, 'Transfer Files'.

Now you will be able to copy files to the HereLink(Optimus) > QGroundControl folder > Mission folder. [Scroll down some to find it].

5

Locate the .KML file(s) on the PC, copy it (drag & drop) to the 'Mission' folder inside the 'QGroundControl' folder.

NOTE: Having the Optimus file/folder hierarchy open on the left sideBar of the PC makes this easier.

6

After it's copied into the 'Missions' folder, eject the HereLink controller "properly" from the PC (Bottom righthand side of your computer screen, typically).

7

Open the QGC App on the HereLink controller.

8

Press the 'Plan' icon, choose 'Survey' (configure all your flight settings as desired).

9

Press the KML/SHP button (top middle) on the screen.

Locate and select your .KML file.

10

The .KML polygon shape and its location on the map should appear (configure all your flight settings and mission parameters as desired). You will be able to make vertex changes/adjustments within QGC.

11

Verify waypoint altitude and flight speed as well as any other pertinent settings for your mission.

12

Upload the mission plan to your aircraft.
