Discharging

To maintain safe operation during use it is recommended to have anyone handling the battery read this section and follow the Discharging Guidelines listed below:

Discharge Guidelines

  • Make sure the status LED is blinking green before use.

  • Never use a battery that is showing signs of physical damage.

  • Never discharge batteries at amperage rates higher than specified in Section, IB388 Technical Specifications.

  • Never operate the battery in ambient temperatures exceeding 45C or 113°F during discharge.

    • Adequate cooling, such as rapid air circulation in flight, is required.

  • Never discharge the battery to a level below 3.3V per cell (19.8v total) under load.

  • Never leave the battery plugged into a load unattended.

  • During the discharging process, the operator should monitor the battery and be prepared to react to potential problems that may occur.

  • In the event of an emergency, discontinue the discharging activity immediately. If physically damaged, disconnect the battery, place it in a well ventilated dry area clear of flammable materials, and observe it for approximately one hour. If a battery is physically damaged it may leak, the contents are flammable and highly reactive. See Section: Battery Disposal on what to do with a damaged battery.

Self Discharging

IB388 batteries have an automatic discharge feature built in that will discharge the batteries in 48 hours to a storage charge state.

  • IB388 batteries have the ability to self discharge to a safe storage voltage. When this occurs the status LED will blink Blue.

    • NOTE: The face of the battery with the power connector will get warm during self discharge.

  • From the factory, IB388 batteries will automatically enter self discharging if it detects an unsafe storage level voltage for more than 48 hours.

  • Users can initiate self discharging by holding the button for 10 seconds, or until the status LED begins to blink blue.

  • A fully charged battery may take up to 4 days to fully discharge to a safe long term storage level.
